Sarah & I photographed some of the material for this series here at the UofM, as well as Idlewild Elementary in Midtown (shown below in blue-green) and Memphis Equipment Company downtown. His images feature such scenes as children collecting salvaged metal for recycling into war materiel, posters in public and private places promoting the sale of war bonds, and the ubiquitous flags that honored service men and women. Work in UMMA’s collection by Mr. al-Saa’i will be on view on the Lower Level for browsing before and after the program until 8:00 p.m.

Museum of Indian Arts and Culture’s career retrospective A New Century: The Life and Legacy of Cherokee Artist and Educator Lloyd "Kiva" New (February 14 through December 30, 2016). The exhibition marks the artist's foray into painting, building off of earlier photographic work for which he is known, and also includes two video works that address issues of labor and migration. Diaries and reminiscences by a descendent of a family with roots in the Commonwealth since 1632. Useful to the scholar for tracing variant forms of artists' names. Three international ateliers (studios for the creation of fine art) located in Paris, Detroit and Tel Aviv, work exclusively in creating these graphic works to be brought to the world market by Park West Gallery. There are some photos, glass negatives, ticket stubs, clippings, and items related to his funeral. Many Benjamin Franklin portraits are also held in the Print Department’s collection of American Historical Prints.

Featured in the book and exhibition is Schenck's much anticipated color work. By 1935, he was the full time publicist for Symphony Hall, a position he maintained until around 1969. Included in the collection are board of governance meeting minutes, grants and contracts, and administrative records which document the organization’s work throughout the 1970s.
